The operation, called “general cleaning”, is carried out on behalf of Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin. Yuri Trutnev stated that this is an important issue and hopes that the project will continue and will help to get rid of hulks of sunken ships, which pose a danger to navigation and spoil the general appearance of the water surface.

Work is carried out in the Severo-Kurilsk, Ozerskoye, Korsakovsky district and Zyryanskoye-Kholmsky districts. Governor Valeriy Limarenko emphasized that the work on the removal of the ships started two years ago, that objects that impede navigation or distort the general view were given priority, and then the remaining ships would be removed. Currently, experts have examined several dozen sunken ships. Contracts for such works have already been signed, and in parallel with this, a search is underway for new objects of the sunken property.

Contractors have already begun to raise the bar in the Severo-Kurilsky district. Therefore, the “Dalarik” Ship on the foreshore is already passing through the large block section. At the same time, work is underway to fix the cables on the Sposobny ship. In July, active work will begin in the Korsakov region for the removal of sunken ships.
