“The purpose of our study was to examine the associations of compulsive sexual behavior with the socio-demographic characteristics of women seeking treatment,” the authors said.

The scientists’ sample included nearly 700 women aged 18 to 66—all participants filled out an online questionnaire asking about their demographics and symptoms of the disorder, including the amount of porn they watched.

After analyzing the responses, the researchers concluded that problematic pornography use was the strongest predictor of symptoms of the disorder. It was observed that the severity of symptoms was higher in divorced and single women compared to those who were married or in a relationship.

The severity of the disorder was positively related to the number of sexual partners during the past year (the more partners, the greater the severity of the disorder).

“Our results indicate that compulsive sexual disorder is a major concern in women and further research is needed to identify protective factors associated with symptom severity,” the authors wrote.
