Fish poisoning is one of the most dangerous, as this product is an ideal breeding ground for bacteria in case of improper preparation, storage and transportation. This was told socialbites.ca by Tatyana Taradeeva, a general practitioner at INVITRO-Privolzhye.
According to the expert, spoiled fish will adversely affect human health, even if it is well fried or cooked. Typical signs of poisoning: nausea and vomiting, severe thirst, severe dehydration, diarrhea.
“Raw fish can be stored in the refrigerator for 1-2 days, and fish dishes should be eaten within a day, otherwise poisoning may develop. The maximum storage time of Japanese food in the refrigerator is 18-24 hours from the time it is prepared,” explained the doctor.
“Incorrect storage of sushi and rolls is dangerous for the development of food poisoning, which is manifested by gastrointestinal disorders, which often leads to hospitalization. Plus, often the fish may initially be affected by parasites such as opisthorchiasis, diphyllobothriasis,” he said.
As a rule, in case of fish poisoning, patients complain of abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, frequent loose stools, fever, headache, as a result of which dehydration and a drop in blood pressure.
“In case of poisoning, it is important not to self-medicate, but to call a doctor. In severe poisoning, hospitalization in a 24-hour hospital is indicated. First of all, in case of fish poisoning, you need to wash the stomach to clean the washes. To do this, you can induce vomiting: drink up to 1 liter of warm salty water and press on the root of the tongue. Then you can take a sorbent that will help remove toxins from the digestive tract and slow their absorption. In addition, it is important to compensate for the loss of fluid – it is necessary to increase the fluid intake to 2-3 liters. Rehydrating saline solutions will help compensate for the loss of trace elements during vomiting and diarrhea. They should be used within the first 6-8 hours after vomiting or diarrhea starts,” the doctor advised.
Fish poisoning is usually mild or moderate, and most people choose home treatment, but there are some symptoms that require immediate medical attention: frequent diarrhea, high fever, bloody stools, persistent vomiting, lethargy.
Former microbiologist Yulia Yushina statedThat there are not enough laboratories in the Russian Federation to search for dangerous E. coli in food.
