Alexander Ganshin, candidate of physical and mathematical sciences and head of Yandex Weather, said in an interview with socialbites.ca that abnormal heat awaits the central cities of Russia in the near future.

“Our estimations are that the temperature on the planet in general is rising. “It also warms much faster at polar latitudes than at the equator.”

The temperature distribution varies, and since the circulation regime in the atmosphere depends on the temperature distribution, this factor significantly affects the weather. Therefore, the air in the central part of Russia is affected by cyclones from the Atlantic, which often move from west to east. Weather in large areas, including Russia, depends on them.

“In the future, the number of weather anomalies in our country will increase due to the change of the circulation regime due to the redistribution of temperature. For example, in winter, more precipitation will begin to fall than before. This is due, first of all, to the fact that the rate of warming in Russia is higher than in the world. On average, there has been a 2.2% increase in precipitation in Russia every 10 years since 1976,” he said.

If we talk about residents of capitals and other large cities, then it will be more difficult for them than for residents of more southern regions.

“Cities have their own special microclimate, the air is warmer in the city center than in the suburbs, this is due, among other things, to the increase in asphalt or tile covered areas. This temperature distribution is called urban heat islands. This is a situation where, due to the intensity of urban development, the air temperature in the center of the city is felt higher than in the more remote areas in the surrounding area. And because there are few natural reservoirs and forests nearby, it will be even warmer in the city center than in the slums. “These trends will certainly continue in the next 10-20 years.”

Ganshin warned that another important trend is that warming in the coming years could lead to dangerous situations.

“For example, forest fires, melting ice and deterioration of air quality,” he said.

Previously reportedHe said more than a third of the monthly precipitation could fall on Moscow in the new week.
