Intentional arson was the cause of the fire that killed 19 children at a school in Guyana. In an interview with a local newspaper, News said fire chief Duane Scotland.

Scotland said firefighters concluded the fire was caused by a malicious act. It is not yet clear who did it for what purpose. Currently, law enforcement has launched an investigation and are questioning witnesses of the tragedy.

A fire broke out in the bedroom of a boarding school on the night of May 22 in the city of Madia in central Guyana. The single-storey wooden building was completely burned in the fire.

President İrfaan Ali declared three days of national mourning. He described the incident as “a great pain for the whole nation”.

It has been reported that DNA testing is needed to identify the dead. In this context, the Government of Guyana has already requested the necessary support from the country’s international partners.

Earlier during a fire in a residential building in Yakutsk perished four people.
