Saifullo Saipov, an Uzbekistani who crushed eight people in downtown New York five years ago, has been sentenced to eight life sentences, according to the US Department of Justice.

In 2017, Saipov drove a truck into a Manhattan bike lane, then began crashing into cyclists and crashing into a school bus.
Eight people were killed and 12 more injured of varying severity.
Saipov was charged with eight murders and 12 attempted murders (based on the number of victims) and an attempt to aid the terrorist organization ISIS (the organization is banned in Russia). The man admitted to investigators that he was inspired by the terrorist videos to carry out the attack using a truck.
