The absence of orgasm in a woman is a reason to consult a sexologist or psychotherapist, Kegel exercises alone will not help you learn how to achieve orgasm and in some cases can harm your health. This was told socialbites.ca by a urologist and necologist at the Semeynaya Clinic (Moscow) and NI Pirogov St.Petersburg State University (St.Petersburg) Anna Berdichevskaya.

Kegel exercises, also known as “intimate muscle” exercises, consist of consistent contraction and relaxation of the pelvic floor and vaginal opening muscles. Often this type of training is advertised as a way to have an orgasm or get rid of incontinence.

“Inability to orgasm is more of a psychophysiological problem, if other causes of anorgasmia are excluded, such as gynecological diseases, a sexologist can help deal with it. Some medications can also make it harder to orgasm. Kegel exercises can teach a woman to feel her “intimate” muscles, thereby improving the sensations during sex. However, such training may be contraindicated for some women, so even a healthy young woman should consult a doctor before doing them, ”explained Berdichevskaya.

The doctor also noted that not all gynecologists can work with “intimate muscles”, so it is better to seek a doctor who specializes in working with the pelvic floor. It is not recommended to do it yourself: Inappropriate and uncontrolled training can lead to pelvic floor hypertonicity, development of pelvic pain or urinary retention in women with prolapsed organs.
