The number of internally displaced persons in the world reached 71.1 million by the end of last year. This is reported in the report of the Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre. (IDMC).
“By the end of 2022, approximately 71.1 million people were internally displaced, a sharp increase from 2021,” the report says.
It is noted that this is a record number for IDPs. In 2021, the number of internally displaced persons increased by 20% to 59.2 million.
Last year, the number of internal displacement cases, which may include several people each, reached 60.9 million.
The highest number of internal displacement due to conflict was recorded in Ukraine during the year with 16.9 million.
