The Romanian Ministry of Defense reported on social media that a Russian Su-35 fighter jet intercepted a Polish L410 Turbolet jet over the Black Sea in an “unacceptable” and “aggressive” manner.
According to the agency, Russian pilots deliberately “created high levels of turbulence and caused serious difficulties in controlling the Polish aircraft” when stopping the aircraft on May 5, causing the aircraft to lose altitude.
The Polish aircraft joined the patrol over the Black Sea as part of the EU border control agency Frontex’s mission, Operation Multi-Purpose Sea Operation West Black Sea 2023. The ministry added that the interception took place at 13:20, 60 km east of Romanian airspace.
The ministry claims that the Polish plane managed to level off “after the first loss of altitude” and landed at Mihail Kogalniceanu airport at around 13:50.
“The aggressive behavior of a military aircraft belonging to the Russian Federation against an unarmed aircraft carrying out Frontex missions to monitor the risk of migration in the Black Sea basin is absolutely unacceptable,” the Romanian ministry said.
