Hypersexual disorder is pathologically increased sexual desire and related sexual activity. It has long been believed among scientists that, in some cases, the use of dating apps may be associated with psycho-sexological problems. Therefore, the authors of the study decided to investigate hypersexual behavior and signs of depression among users of such services.

To do this, they collected a sample of 1,000 people, 119 of whom were users of dating services and 881 were not. All subjects completed a socio-demographic questionnaire, questionnaires to assess hypersexual behavior and symptoms of depression.

“Above all, we found higher levels of hypersexual behavior and depressive symptoms in dating service users compared to non-users. They are more likely to have sexual intercourse with casual partners. Interestingly, the users were much younger than the second group of subjects. Maybe it’s hypersexual disorder and depression that drives people to use dating apps. We will further examine this issue in future studies.
