Women see the lordotic position of other women as a sign of increased sexual receptivity and see them as a threat to romantic relationships, while men find this position more attractive. The results of the work of psychologists from the University of British Columbia have been published. magazine genders

Lordotic posture means that the lower part of the spine is curved towards the stomach. According to the author, this posture is natural for mating among female mammals as it is a critical component of successful reproduction. Although the lordotic posture is mostly seen in non-human animals, some researchers have suggested that it also developed among humans as part of courtship.

Thus, in a previous study, the authors found that men are fascinated by a woman’s arched back. They created six realistic 3D computer models of a female body with slightly different back angles and presented them to 82 boys and girls to rate its attractiveness. This time, scientists evaluated the reactions of women.

As it turned out, women perceive this position as a signal of competition for a partner. At the same time, participants noted that women with arched backs seem more attractive to them.

The results shed light on the relationship between female lordotic posture and intrasexual rivalry. In the future, the authors will repeat the study using real photos to confirm the results.
