China could resort to 3D printing of buildings in the construction of a moon base. In this respect informs China Daily.

“If we want to stay on the Moon for a long time, we need to build stations from the Moon using our own materials,” said Wu Weirong of China’s National Space Administration. In particular, the development of elements of 3D printing technology will be carried out on the Chang’e-8 lunar probe, the launch of which is planned by 2030. The main task of the device will be to evaluate the mineral composition of the lunar soil in the south polar region, which is necessary for the use of local resources by astronauts.

3D printing of a building is a viable alternative to traditional buildings with concrete slabs or bricks, as it is done layer by layer, almost completely automatically. This reduces the construction time.
