The government of Armenia approved a draft law on the military service of female volunteers in the Armed Forces. It has been reported interfax.

In the presentation of the law, Armenian Defense Minister Suren Papikyan emphasized that women will do their military service voluntarily. Mandatory service life will be six months.

The first female military recruitment in the country is planned for the 2023 winter military service period. Upon completion of the service, women will be presented with 1 million dram (2.5 thousand dollars) as an honorary payment.

According to Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, this bill is compatible with the concept of creating a professional army in the country. The approved draft law was sent to the Turkish Grand National Assembly for discussion.

28 January 2023 Pashinyan announced About plans to introduce voluntary military service to women in a message to mark Army Day. Armenian women already have the opportunity to serve on a contract basis in the Armed Forces.
