The press service of the forum reported that one of the main focuses of the work program of the XIV International Forum “Ecology” will be the development of international cooperation to address environmental protection issues.
As the organizers of the forum noted, despite the difficult geopolitical situation, Russia remains a party to many international agreements in the field of environmental protection.
Nikolay Valuev Ecology, President of the Public Council of the Center for the Promotion of Non-Profit Autonomous Non-Profit Environmental Initiatives, emphasized that ecology is an area that should be depoliticized as much as possible.
“We all live on the same planet, so each state has its share of responsibility for the state of the environment and climate change. I believe that ecology should remain a field of cooperation, we are open to dialogue with all relevant countries.”
The “green diplomacy” platform within the framework of the Forum will be the strategic session “SDG 17.2.0: international environmental dialogue”. The discussion is designed to identify ways to achieve the sustainable development goals declared by the UN in new conditions.
Representatives of foreign states, the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the State Duma and the Federation Council, business and non-profit organizations are invited to the event. Representatives of the embassies of Algeria, Bangladesh, South Africa, Bolivia and other countries confirmed their participation in the discussion.
The event will kick off on June 5, the 50th anniversary of World Environment Day. UNEP Regional Director for Europe, Arnold Kreilhuber, will address forum participants via video link. Vladimir Moshkalo, head of UNEP’s office in Russia, will also attend the forum in person on 6 June.
