The Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center recorded a 6.6 magnitude earthquake in the north of the Indonesian island of Java. It has been reported Reuters.
The shocks occurred at a depth of 592 km. No casualties or collateral damage were reported. It was noted that the earthquake did not cause a tsunami risk.
Indonesia is located in one of the most seismically active regions on the planet and is part of the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire. A chain of volcanoes stretches from Sumatra to the Banda Sea over Sumatra, Java, Bali and the Lesser Sunda Islands, forming a loop from near the Banda Islands to northeastern Sulawesi. There are 150 active volcanoes in the country.
