Making money from the grades of schoolchildren will lead to the strengthening of a business attitude towards life – the head of the Russian Makarenko Association, an associate professor at the Russian National Research Medical University, expressed his point of view in a conversation with socialbites.ca. NI Pirogova Tatiana Korableva.
Previously in the State Duma suggested Transfer money to Russian schoolchildren for a five-person “Pushkin card” to create financial incentives to improve academic performance.
“I am against such an initiative. There is no need to monetize knowledge as it is a false motivation for a child: children will strive only for grades, not knowledge. Of course, one will strive for both. But gradually, especially in a teenager, material interest will prevail over content. The business approach to life will get worse, there will be less information, ”Korableva explained.
In her opinion, it is better to reward schoolchildren with something more meaningful that can help them improve.
“Children can be impressed, they need to set good examples. Let’s say a student made a discovery or spearheaded a project. Children should be rewarded with meaningful things that will help them develop, such as travel, camping, sports equipment. You don’t need to pay high five, ”Korableva said.
When asked how schoolchildren differ from students who qualify for fees for excellent education, Korableva replied that these are two completely different categories of students.
“First, a student costs much more because they are studying in other cities, often away from home. Second, the scholarships are very small. Third, the student is rewarded for all the work, not every grade. The approach to a student and a schoolboy should be different, ”Korableva concluded.
