The police operation arrested three people responsible for the plot and another 16 who used false documents to claim Ukrainian refugee status. According to police sources, many originally used this route to benefit from the protection of Russian and Ukrainian citizens so as not to have to join the war waged by their country.
According to the police, the investigation began after the detection of false documents submitted by two Russian-born citizens pretending to be residing in Ukraine to take advantage of the temporary protection regime for people displaced by the war in Ukraine.
