Gynecologists at the New H Medical clinic in New York City have discovered that a gel containing L-arginine and L-citrulline helps increase blood flow to the clitoris and vulva, increasing the likelihood of achieving female orgasm. Study published magazine sexologies.
L-arginine and its metabolite L-citrulline are amino acids involved in nitric oxide production. They increase blood flow and are used in gels designed to treat male sexual dysfunction. The scientists decided to test whether it could be used to treat problems reaching orgasm in women.
The study involved a 32-year-old woman who had sonography of the clitoris taken twice. “Before” images were acquired using a neutral ultrasound gel (without L-arginine and L-citrulline).
“After applying the gel, the blood flow and velocity in the clitoris increased. The effect lasted for 15 minutes. Difficulty reaching orgasm is common among women all over the world. The results show that the use of the gel can increase the sensitivity of the clitoris, thereby increasing the likelihood of reaching orgasm,” the scientists concluded.
