Scientists at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center have discovered that ChatGPT, an AI-powered chatbot, can help improve outcomes by providing easy-to-understand information to patients with cirrhosis and liver cancer. The research was published in the journal Clinical and Molecular Hepatology.

ChatGP quickly gained popularity thanks to its ability to respond with human-like text. He has already demonstrated his medical potential by correctly answering exam questions for medical students and filling out medical reports.

To test the AI’s accuracy in information about cirrhosis and liver cancer, the researchers provided ChatGPT with 164 frequently asked questions in five categories. ChatGPT responses were then independently evaluated by two liver transplant specialists.

ChatGPT answered approximately 77% of the questions correctly, with a high level of accuracy across 91 questions in various categories. AI also provided patients and caregivers with practical and helpful advice on adjusting to a new diagnosis.

But the study left no doubt that communication with a doctor is currently more effective than ChatGPT queries.

Patients with liver cancer and cirrhosis need long-term and difficult treatment. Because the available literature is often long and difficult to understand, and physicians’ time is limited, patients’ knowledge of their disease is critical to achieving optimal outcomes.
