Two people hospitalized on suspicion of anthrax arrived in the Moscow region from the Republic of Chuvashia, where two cases of infection were previously recorded. Laboratory tests of the patient’s blood did not confirm the diagnosis.

Rospotrebnadzor reported that the threat of an anthrax epidemic was ruled out: the disease, as a rule, is not transmitted from person to person.

On March 15, 2023, two people were diagnosed with anthrax in Chuvashia. The situation is under the control of the Rospotrebnadzor departments, experts continue their work to combat the epidemic.

Anthrax is caused by a bacteria Bacillus anthracis. In most cases, the disease in humans occurs in the form of the skin, where the mortality rate is 10-20%. In the pulmonary form, approximately 45-90% of patients die. Sources of infection can be farm animals or animal products. Cats and dogs are not very susceptible to bacteria.
