Construction of Russia’s largest Buddhist monastery “Tubten Shedrub Ling” was completed in the capital of the Republic of Tyva Kyzyl. It has been reported Central News Service.
The construction site was chosen by the Dalai Lama 30 years ago during his visit to Tyva. The architecture of the complex resembles the Potala Palace of the Dalai Lama in Tibet, built in the 7th century at an altitude of 3700 m above sea level. The height of the main temple of the monastery is 56 meters, which is equivalent to the height of a 20-storey building.
15 monks from Tuva and India will live in the monastery, after which their number will be increased to 30. A hostel is being built for them on the territory of the monastery.
An exhibition of Buddhist religious objects from the destroyed Tuvan monasteries will be placed on the first floor of the monastery. The total number of exhibitions will be approximately 3,000.
