Gum bleeding is one of the signs of inflammation and indicates that the patient has one of two inflammatory diseases. In honor of World Oral Health Day, celebrated on March 20, European Medical Center dentist-therapist Pavel Pisarev Pavel briefed socialbites.ca about the rules of oral hygiene.

According to the expert, the main thing when brushing your teeth is not the truth itself, but the correct and complete removal of plaque. For example, it is important to brush your teeth every 12 hours. Reducing sugar and carbohydrate intake significantly reduces the risk of tooth decay.

“There are two common and effective ways to determine how thoroughly your teeth have been brushed. First: after cleaning, take a toothpick and hold it along the gumline of several teeth. If there is a coating on the tip of the toothpick, the cleaning is not thorough enough. The second way is to use the raid indicator. Rule As a matter of fact, these are drugs in the form of tablets or a solution that stains the plaque in different colors, ”said the doctor.

As for bleeding gums, it mostly occurs when brushing or chewing hard foods. This symptom indicates that the gums are weakened and the inflammatory process occurs in them. Causes of bleeding gums include the presence of dental deposits – soft plaque or hard tartar. Dental deposits consist of bacteria that release various toxins and pathogens that lead to the development of the inflammatory process in the gums. Inflammation leads to an increase in the permeability and fragility of capillaries (therefore, blood appears exactly when brushing your teeth), as well as swelling, redness or cyanosis of the gingival margin and interdental gingival papilla. Bleeding from the gums may occur due to the fact that a person takes certain drugs that he uses to treat hypertension (anticoagulants – reduce blood clotting), antiepileptic drugs and hormonal contraceptives, ”the dentist emphasized.

Another reason is concomitant diseases: leukemia, diabetes mellitus, heavy metal poisoning, as well as the period of pregnancy, when a woman’s hormonal levels change.

“In any case, with bleeding gums, you should immediately contact a dentist. After the plaque is removed, the doctor will teach you how to brush your teeth properly so that it does not reappear in a few weeks. Do not forget that the best remedy for bleeding gums is proper and high-quality oral hygiene, including the regular use of additional products: floss and toothbrushes, ”the doctor advised.
