The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine said that despite an application to the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs to renounce Ukrainian citizenship, the country will continue to consider Ukrainian citizenship valid. This is stated in the message of the Ukrainian diplomatic department.
“The procedure for renunciation of Ukrainian citizenship is clearly stated in the current legislation of Ukraine. All Ukrainian passport holders who do not pass the naturalization procedure stipulated by the Ukrainian legislation will continue to be Ukrainian citizens.
According to the ministry’s statement, the Ukrainian authorities will continue to accept Ukrainian citizenship as valid for residents of the DPR, LPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions.
Earlier, the Federation Council of the Russian Federation at a meeting approved A law proposing to accept Ukrainian citizenship for Russians was repealed from the time they applied to the Ministry of Internal Affairs to withdraw. At the same time, from the moment of applying for a reluctance to become a citizen of Ukraine, a Russian will not need to take any additional actions.
