Roman Kovalev, who was beaten by three natives of Dagestan in the Moscow metro in the fall of 2021, considers his 8.5 to 12 years in prison as “justified”. According to him, despite the consequences, he would now decide to be with the passenger.

“As far as I know, they were prosecuted on several counts, so there’s more than one victim, so it’s quite justified. First you need to think about what you are doing and then do it. They took it out like they did. From the very beginning I said how much they would give, how much they would give, I did not drown there for a certain time. Of course, even now I would not change my decision to stand up for the girl. Neighbors should be helped, and so that there is always some kind of justice, ”she said.

Kovalev noted that he had almost fully recovered two years later, but was still concerned about the pressure drops and lack of sensitivity in the upper jaw.

“Right now I started life from scratch. I got a job at a fitness club, started working as a fitness trainer. I only have some minor pressure drops and I still can’t feel the gum where I had surgery on my left side. Roughly speaking, half of the upper jaw. Well, unfortunately it won’t come back, there is absolutely no sensitivity in my gums. And so, visually it is already what it was two years ago,” he added.

In October 2021, Roman Kovalev was severely beaten by three locals from Dagestan on a Moscow subway train after he scolded them for insulting a passenger. Law enforcement identified the attackers and it turned out to be Magamali Khanmagomedov, Ibragim Musalaev and Gasan Zalibekov.

A few days after the incident, Bastrykin, head of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, ordered that Kovalev be awarded a departmental award – the medal “Courage and Courage”. Also, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin instructed metro management will pay the victim 2 million rubles.

On March 14, 2022, the Moscow Izmailovski Court found Magamali Khanmagomedov guilty of attempted murder by a group of people with hooligan motives, as well as using violence against a government official and insulting a government official. He was sentenced to 12 years in prison with a strict regime colony.

His accomplice, Ibragim Musalaev, was found guilty of attempted murder, assaulting a policeman and threatening death. He was sentenced to 11 years in a strict regime colony. The third defendant, Gasan Zalibekov, was found guilty of attempted murder. He will spend eight and a half years in prison.

All convicted judges also imposed a one-year restriction on liberty.
