The United States Food and Drug Administration has refused to allow Neuralink, founded by Elon Musk, to run tests on humans that involve implanting a microchip in the brain and controlling external devices with the power of thought. It has been reported ReutersRefers to current and former employees of Neuralink.
It was noted that the company made a request regarding this at the beginning of last year. According to Reuters sources, the reasons for the failure are related to the safety of the device’s lithium battery, possible migration of tiny implant wires to other parts of the brain, and the issue of safe removal of the device without damaging brain tissue.
It’s also been a year since the rejection, according to Reuters. Still, the company is making efforts to improve the technology, which, from the point of view of Neuralink representatives, will not allow testing in the near future.
