Portuguese fleet placed on high alert due to Russian military tanker

The Portuguese Navy lifted the ocean-going patrol ship NRP Setubal to accompany the Russian Baltic Fleet tanker Kola of the Altai project, which was moving off the coast of the country. It has been reported Portugal News pursuant to the declaration of the fleet.

According to the publication, the patrol vessel accompanied the ship, traveling 362 nautical miles (670 km) from the northern coast of Portugal to the border with Vila Real de Santo António.

The Portuguese Navy confirmed through its Naval Operations Center that it “maintains active surveillance of areas of national interest” and “ensures adequate readiness of ship assets to advance and protect Portugal’s interests at sea and by sea”.

A similar reaction of the fleet was recorded in January when Russian ships were passing through Portugal.

How reported Earlier, the Portuguese Air Force announced the multinational and interdisciplinary exercise Real Thaw 2023 (RT23) from 27 February to 10 March at Air Base No 11 in Beja.

The air forces of Portugal, Germany, Belgium, Spain, Denmark, the USA, the Netherlands, Poland, the combined forces of NATO, the navy and ground forces will participate in the exercises.

The Air Force said the exercises will allow to assess the operational capabilities of the air forces of different countries and “prepare them for action in joint and combined operations of the UN and NATO”.
