A study by psychologists from Concordia University in Canada, magazine Personal Relationships has shown that mentioning the pronouns “we” and “we” (hereinafter the we-speaking practice) when talking about events experienced together with a partner indicates greater relationship satisfaction.

The scientists came to this conclusion after conducting a meta-analysis of 30 let’s talk studies. They also conducted their own study involving 77 couples who had at least one child (acting as a stressor). All participants filled out a relationship assessment questionnaire and then talked about the most difficult aspect of raising a child and its impact on couples.

It seems that the partners we talked less about experienced a decline in marital satisfaction over time. If partners often used the pronouns “we” or “we”, then there was no reduction.

According to scientists, this pattern is explained by the fact that the practice we talk causes partners to think of each other as a team. This reflects positively on marriage.
