People with sensitive skin, those with pigmented moles, children and adolescents should avoid manicure, which requires exposure to ultraviolet radiation – the chief oncologist of SM-Clinic, Professor of Medical Sciences, shared his opinion with Alexander of socialbites.ca. Seryakov.

“If the skin is very sensitive, and exposure to sunlight quickly causes redness, peeling, itching, then such people should be more careful when doing a manicure – such a reaction to ultraviolet radiation is associated with an increased risk of developing skin cancer. It can occur not only innate, but also against the background of taking certain drugs or cosmetics with components that increase photosensitivity – for example, musk or orange oil, ”says Seryakov.

The oncologist also warns children and adolescents with eczema or psoriasis, those with systemic diseases, those with a history of skin cancer.

“For those with pigmented nevi on the fingers and toes, I advise you to refuse a manicure with a UV lamp or carefully comb the problem areas. Use a cream with a high level of SPF protection, anti-ultraviolet gloves with slits at the fingertips,” stressed Seryakov.

The professor advises to consider the use of UV lamps more carefully, although there are no contraindications.

Previously, scientists from the University of California at San Diego and the University of Pittsburgh in the United States had found that ultraviolet light emitted from manicure lamps can cause skin cancer by damaging the DNA of human cells.
