Scientists at the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf have found that stool analysis can predict the development of Parkinson’s disease before symptoms appear. Research published in the journal npj parkinson’s disease.
REM sleep behavior disorder (REMS) is a condition that can indicate Parkinson’s disease. At the same time, the patient has vivid and disturbing dreams and performs complex movements that may be dangerous for himself and his relatives.
Scientists have developed a new assay to measure α-synuclein protein aggregates. They showed that RPBS could be detected in many cases by stool analysis for aggregates of α-synuclein. Their future discovery will allow for early treatment before symptoms appear, but more research is needed for this.
The study indirectly supports the hypothesis that in 30% of cases, Parkinson’s disease begins with the formation of synuclein protein aggregates in intestinal nervous system cells and then enters the central nervous system, causing symptoms.
