Scientists at the European University in Cyprus found that young men have higher IQs than women. The results of the research were published in the journal Brain and Behavior.

A total of 311 people (128 men) participated in the study. Participants rated their intelligence levels on a 0 to 100 scale, and physical health and physical attractiveness on a 9-point scale. All participants then completed the cognitive test of working memory, a strong measure of intelligence and a measure of creativity.

“Young men in Greece score higher on intelligence quotient (IQ) and emotional quotient (EQ) than younger women. An inverse pattern was found for the elderly. “So far, researchers have not observed gender differences in self-reported intelligence in older adults,” he said.

In addition, scores for physical attractiveness, health, and religiosity were positively associated with participants’ self-reported IQ. However, no correlation was found between objective measures of working memory and the person’s reported IQ. This suggests that this variable is often overestimated.
