German Zubarev, Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Russia, said in an interview with the newspaper: “News”Cybercriminals are placing QR codes in public places that promise “guaranteed” social benefits to citizens.
“When a person scans a QR code, a chatbot enters the messenger. In addition, it turned out that he was entitled to a so-called payment, ”Zubarev said.
According to him, the attackers offer payment to students and families with children. However, scammers, under the pretext of applying for help, ask for personal data that they use to steal money from a bank card.
Zubarev noted that QR codes are placed in places with large numbers of people. Especially at bus stops, parking lots and other public places.
At the same time, as the Central Bank vice-president pointed out, chatbots are reliable because they resemble the services of government offices.
