The woman, 41, sustained a shoulder injury described as minor, yet the episode prompted an urgent response from emergency services and law enforcement alike.
According to official statements released on Wednesday by the Madrid Command of the national aggressor unit, the suspect was arrested the previous day, three days after the event, and is currently in temporary detention while investigators gather further details.
The events unfolded at a residence on Martín Iriarte street, within the Las Matas urbanization in the Las Rozas municipality near Madrid. Early enquiries indicate that a heated quarrel occurred after the accused had spent the night out socializing in the Torrelodones area, setting the stage for the ensuing violence.
During the confrontation, the alleged assailant produced a firearm, a 22-caliber handgun, and fired a shot as his partner sought safety inside a room of the building. The woman, who remains Spanish, managed to free herself briefly before retreating and locking herself in the room for protection.
Moments later, the assailant fired through the door, striking the victim in the shoulder. The projectile traveled at a reduced speed, but the impact required medical attention. Paramedics from Summa 112 arrived at the scene, provided initial care, and transported the injured party to Puerta de Hierro Hospital in Majadahonda. She was admitted in a stable condition for treatment and observation.
The partner had already fled the scene, prompting a rapid investigation by the Civil Guard to locate her whereabouts and ensure her safety. Authorities mobilized a strong joint operation involving the Benemérita and Local Police around the municipality, a coordinated effort that intensified through the weekend and culminated in the arrest this Tuesday of the man responsible.
In a related line of inquiry conducted at the suspect’s home, authorities recovered evidence of illegal activity, including a marijuana cultivation setup and approximately 1.2 kilograms of plant material.
