A judge in Palma has issued an arrest warrant for a couple accused of mistreating a young girl who lived with them in Manacor. prosecutors seek a total of twelve years in prison for the two, who did not attend yesterday’s trial and did not respond to prior judicial requests. They face charges of domestic abuse and injuries tied to a sustained pattern of degrading behavior toward the girl, who was fourteen at the time, including insults and regular physical blows over a period exceeding six months.

The case surfaced in late April 2022 when the teenager escaped at night from the home she shared with her mother and the mother’s partner in Manacor. She sought help from two bystanders who then accompanied her to a National Police station. Officers confirmed visible injuries on her arm and transported her to a hospital for treatment.

The teenager disclosed to officers that the abuse from her mother and the mother’s partner began around November 2021. The Public Prosecutor notes in the indictment that the pair subjected her to a pattern of serious humiliation and mistreatment, using terms such as plaything, you fool, slut, whore, and orphan. In addition to insults, she was repeatedly shoved and slapped as part of the routine violence.

On the night of April 30, 2021, the two defendants returned home intoxicated and argued with the girl because she wanted to leave the residence. Four slaps to the face and a push knocked her into a doorframe, causing an injury to her arm. After the assault, they locked her in a room. The teenager waited for her mother and the mother’s partner to fall asleep before escaping to seek help.

Flight from Justice

The National Police detained the two suspects, aged 47 and 49, a few hours later. They were released, but a police court order established a protective distance for the victim. The girl was placed under the guardianship of the state.

The defendants are currently evading justice. A March preliminary hearing for the offences proceeded without either of them appearing. The judge ordered follow‑up actions in Murcia, where they are believed to reside, though those efforts have yet to yield results.

The trial scheduled for yesterday did not take place as neither defendant appeared or contacted their lawyers. In response, the prosecutor requested a warrant for arrest and extradition, and the judge granted this order after confirming the lawyers did not object.

As this case unfolds, officials emphasize the protection of the victim and the importance of timely judicial action to ensure accountability for domestic abuse and child endangerment. The authorities continue to pursue the suspects and coordinate with regional offices to locate them and bring them to trial, while maintaining the child’s safety and well‑being under state guardianship. The proceedings highlight ongoing efforts to address violence within households and to reinforce legal remedies for young victims in Spain.
