Perm district court sentenced Timur Bekmansurov, who organized a mass shooting at Perm State University, to life imprisonment. Reported by TASS.

“Bekmansurov committed three crimes of medium severity and three crimes of special gravity. Judge Sergei Korobeinikov, the court believes that despite his young age, extenuating circumstances and positive qualities, Bekmansurov should be sentenced to life in prison, with the first three years in prison and the remaining term in the colony of the special regime.

The court found Bekmansurov sane and guilty of six separate crimes. Among them – murder, attempted murder of two or more people, encroachment on the life of a law enforcement officer, deliberate damage to someone else’s property.

The case began on September 5th. Bekmansurov fully admitted his guilt at the first meeting.

In his last speech, he said that he regretted his work and committed to paying compensation to the victims. For two months, the court studied more than 100 volumes of the criminal case.

The defendant does not intend to appeal the decision.

The court also decided to pay Bekmansurov a total compensation of 24.91 million rubles for the moral damage caused to the relatives of the deceased and injured. Bekmansurov promised to compensate them from the disability pension.

According to RIA Novosti, the amount of claims against Bekmansurov amounted to 18.3 million rubles.

On September 20, 2021, first-year student Timur Bekmansurov arrived at Perm State University with a firearm. He opened fire on people in the street at the entrance of the university building. He fired about 30 shots in total. Students and teachers jumped out of the building’s windows as they tried to escape. Six people were killed and 59 injured.

Bekmansurov was detained by two traffic policemen – lieutenant Konstantin Kalinin and senior lieutenant Vladimir Makarov.

According to Kalinin, they stood guard near the university, reporting an accident when they saw people fleeing.

“Help, help is needed, they are shooting there,” they shouted. I just thought of escaping and saving people. Running to the main entrance, he pulled out a pistol and fired a flare into the room. I noticed how people jumped from the second floor – they were saved, ”the police said later.

Ensign Kalinin entered the university building, the attacker began to shoot at him. In response, the police opened fire with a service gun, injuring the shooter several times.

Makarov, 47, led people outside the university building. “People were running in panic, some were limping. Blood was visible. I tried to direct them to the ambulances. He pointed in a safe direction. Then he organized the transfer of special services and ambulances to the shooting location.

The head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Vladimir Kolokoltsev, assigned the next ranks to traffic police officers – lieutenant and captain, respectively. Russian President Vladimir Putin awarded Kalinin and Makarov the Order of Courage and the “Outstanding Achievement in Maintaining Public Order” medal.

Bekmansurov was detained and hospitalized in serious condition. His leg was amputated, he was in the detention unit for a long time. The media reported that after the detainee came out of the coma, his consciousness became blurred, he claimed to have lost his memory.
