Juice of Actinidia acute plant was able to suppress lung cancer development in mice. Okayama University reports.

Lung cancer is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. It has one of the lowest five-year survival rates of all cancers. This disease is of particular interest, as it often has an obvious cause – smoking.

Acute Actinidia is a productive vine that produces large fruits that taste like figs. These berries are known to have anti-mutagenic effects, including the substances sar-j and isoQ, and now scientists have decided to find out if they can fight cancer. To this end, the team induced tumor growth in mice using NNK, a known carcinogenic compound found in tobacco products. The authors examined the effect of sar-j and isoQ on lung cancer development in mice using a series of experiments with a control group.

The group that received NNK injections and oral doses of the juice appeared to have an increased number of tumor nodes in the lungs. a. arguta, was significantly lower than the group treated with NNK alone. In addition, oral administration of isoQ also reduced the number of nodules. In further experiments, the scientists found that sar-j appears to have an anti-mutagenic effect and accelerates the natural repair of DNA.

The authors hope that in the future actinidia acute juice will be used to treat cancer in humans.
