Researchers from the University of California found that goji berry prevents vision impairment in the elderly. The results of the study were published in the journal nutrients.

The scientists’ experiment involved 13 people aged 45-65 years. For three months, the volunteers ate about 30 grams of strawberries. At the beginning and end of the period, the researchers measured the intensity of the eye’s protective pigments. As it turned out, this figure increased during the experiment.

The scientists also recruited another group of 14 subjects of the same age, who took medical supplements for three months to improve eye health. The second group showed no change.

According to researchers, eating goji berries helps increase lutein and zeaxanthin levels. These two pigments filter out harmful blue light, provide antioxidant protection and help protect eyes from the effects of aging.
