Today, electric vehicles in Russia are still exotic – their share is less than 1%. But Russian manufacturers, as well as foreign automakers, promise that every year there will be more and more cars on the road without an internal combustion engine. And the Russian winter does not frighten them, although electric cars still have their own driving characteristics.

Car expert and blogger Anton Vorotnikov notes that in winter the charge of an electric car is halved on average. But the battery discharge rate directly depends on the region.

“The Russian winter is a loose concept. There are frosts in the north at minus 50, sometimes minus 10 in Moscow. But on average, the load is reduced by half in winter. And, of course, a large amount of energy is spent on heating and ice crust,” – says the expert.

Otherwise, according to Vorotnikov, the electric car is identical to the traditional one, including driving on winter roads. But there is no need to talk about market capture in the coming years, as the infrastructure in the regions is still poorly developed.
