Applied skills and career development will not play a decisive role when applying for a job in the future. Anastasia Kovalenko, head of teaching programs for adolescent development at MAXIMUM Education, said in an interview with socialbites.ca that much more will be valued on self-learning, emotional literacy and the ability to think critically.

According to the expert, the main factor affecting how people will work in the future is the increasing rate of change in almost every aspect of life.

“Applied skills are required for specific tasks, they are shaped in the learning process and are based on technical knowledge. For example, for a designer this is the ability to work in graphic editors, and for a translator, knowledge of the language. So it is something that can be learned. This knowledge is fundamentally important, because without good “solid” skills, for example, it is impossible to find a job. At the same time, they can be taught not only to a living person, but also to artificial intelligence, ”says Kovalenko.

In this regard, transprofessional skills that help to successfully interact with people, solve communication problems and process incoming information become unique. One of the most important is emotional literacy. It is the ability to understand the feelings, intentions, and motivations of others. The skill helps to avoid conflicts and establish a dialogue with different people.

It is also the ability to self-learn, which is very important in the modern world.

“A modern specialist needs to constantly train himself and be able to organize the learning process himself. This is especially true for online courses, where ultimate success depends heavily on self-discipline and the ability to control your time. To constantly learn, you need to be able to follow your motivation and effectively integrate time for lessons into everyday life, ”says Kovalenko.

At the same time, in order to process a large incoming flow of information and manage to find time for regular study, you need to be able to manage attention – this is the ability to focus and watch for distractions. The skill helps to cope with information overload and helps you to consciously choose where to direct your attention based on priorities and goals.

It is necessary to develop critical thinking in order to objectively evaluate not only the course of one’s development, but also the incoming information. The basis of this skill is reasoning ability.

“The ability to think critically helps us build logical and causal relationships. Thanks to them, it is much more difficult for a person to become a victim of manipulation or misinformation. People who think critically, question facts, ask questions, and do not accept information as certain. This skill helps to make sound decisions and build strong arguments,” Kovalenko stressed.
