Valeologist MeiTan Lidia Sinitsina told socialbites.ca how to recognize a vitamin deficiency in yourself before the first signs of the disease appear. According to the expert, there are seven non-obvious signs that could be considered a reason to get tested.
Therefore, Sinitsina emphasized that, first of all, it is rather banal and familiar that she speaks of a possible hypovitaminosis: general weakness, lethargy, lethargy, increased frequency and prolonged course of colds, mood swings. In addition to a general deterioration in well-being, the body can signal a lack of necessary substances and in very non-standard ways, these include:
– The desire to chew on ice. It is usually a sign of iron deficiency. The lack of this trace element contributes to the deterioration of taste habits, as a result, there is a desire not only to gnaw ice, but also to chew, for example, lime, chalk or raw cereals;
– Frequent cough. Iron deficiency also causes dry mucous membranes and a reflex cough;
– swollen gums. A number of reasons can contribute to the appearance of this symptom, from smoking and taking hormonal contraceptives to hypovitaminosis D and reduced immunity;
– insomnia disease. One of the most common causes of sleep disorders is magnesium deficiency. Its deficiency adversely affects the state of the nervous system and is manifested by anxiety, irritability, fear, fatigue and, of course, the same insomnia;
– Frequent numbness or tingling in the limbs. Periodic tingling and numbness in the limbs may indicate several problems in the body at once: this is vitamin deficiency in general, diseases of the cardiovascular system, diseases of the spine, nervous system disorders;
– hair loss. This signal of the body may indicate a lack of B vitamins. Also, stress, anxiety and insomnia, malnutrition, pregnancy and breastfeeding, thyroid problems affect the condition of the hair;
– dry lips, cracks in the corners Most often, this is how the body reacts to a deficiency of vitamins A, E, B, as well as zinc or iron.
Sinitsina advises to consult a doctor and undergo additional examinations if alarming symptoms are detected. To prevent hypovitaminosis, the doctor recommends paying attention to high-quality nutrition, biologically active food supplements and maintenance procedures.
“Remember one simple rule: For any health problem, it’s easier to resolve them in the early stages,” Valeolog said.
