Italian Prime Minister Giorgio Meloni attended the premiere of Boris Godunov’s opera at La Scala Theatre. Answering journalists’ questions, the politician summarized his position on Russian culture.

“I have a clear stance on Ukraine, but it has nothing to do with Russian culture and Russian people. There is a political choice and these two issues must be separated,” said George Meloni.

According to the Corriere della Sera newspaper, the production of Modest Mussorgsky’s opera “Boris Godunov” has officially opened the season at the “La Scala” theatre.

The publication states that the representatives of the Italian high society gathered at the theater deemed it worthy to choose the Russian opera for the opening of the season.

Also, according to ANSA’s report, Italian President Sergio Mattarella, who attended the premiere of Boris Godunov, said that Russian culture is a part of Europe and cannot be cancelled.
