As has happened to most companies in the agri-food sector, mostly working for supermarket chains, infusion company Martínez y Cantó has managed to avoid the consequences of the two-year pandemic. This is evident in the 2021 turnover, which has just been released. 30.5 million €, only 1% lower than the previous year when the health crisis broke out. Mercadona has a lot to do with the stability the company’s results show. accounts for about 60% of all turnover.
As in the sales figure, profit before tax remained at 1.9 million euros, in a line of continuity in all its aspects. “Fortunately, companies in the food sector in general have not been harmed by the arrival of the pandemic, as we continue to have the same consequences that we managed before the crisis broke out,” said José Vicente Cantó, the company’s chief financial officer.

According to the company itself, the results in recent years have been positive, but what could happen in the current year is no longer so clear. Worsening of numbers is already predicted. Cantó refers to issues such as rising energy costs and raw materials, in the context of rising inflation. “These are some of the negative elements that will hurt the numbers we’ve dealt with so far. In any case, we’ll have to wait until the end to get concrete data,” he says.
Francisco Martínez and José Cantó were the founders of the company in 1970, specializing in packaging for third parties as it does not have its own brand. It has facilities in Novelda with an area of 21,000 square meters divided between the infusion preparation area and the logistics centre.
