The Moscow Basmanny Court upheld the lawsuit filed by Roskomnadzor on July 26, voiding the license of the printed version of Novaya Gazeta. The Ministry requested that the registration of the media be canceled because the broadcasting regulation was not provided within the time limits determined by the law.
“The Court has satisfied Roskomnadzor’s administrative request to cancel the registration certificate received from CJSC Publishing House Novaya Gazeta,” the court told TASS.
The editor-in-chief of the publication, Dmitry Muratov, has already commented, calling the decision to revoke the license “political”. “[Решение суда] that does not make sense. This is a trivial, orderly, political decision. “We received a second warning from Roskomnadzor. What does that mean? This means that we are forced to suspend the publication of the newspaper and not to update our website and social networks until the conflict on Ukrainian soil is over. There is no other way out. This is a terrible and difficult decision for us and I know for you. But we must save us for each other, ”said Muratov’s letter to the readers.
In total, since the end of February 2022, the newspaper received six notices from the Prosecutor General’s Office and Roskomnadzor requesting the removal of materials containing “false socially important information”.
New projects
After the suspension of the newspaper, Novaya journalists launched two new projects – “New Newspaper. Europe” (chief editor – Kirill Martynov (known in the Russian Federation as a media agent)) and “New story-newspaper”. both one and the other locked At the request of the Prosecutor General’s Office in Russia.
The first issue of New Story-Gazeta was published on July 15. Access to Novaya.no was restricted as part of regulations to block sites containing calls for insurrection, extremism and participation in illegal mass actions. Until then, it had existed for 7 days and 9 hours.
