Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced the detention of Bashar Khattab Ghazal Al Sumaydai, one of the key leaders of the ISIS terrorist group (a banned organization in Russia), also known as Abu Zeid or Usta Zeid. His words were quoted by the TV channel NTV.
The Turkish president stated that the country’s General Directorate of Security and the Istanbul Police Department participated in the operation to catch the terrorist.
“This terrorist’s connections in Syria and Istanbul have been followed for a long time, and intelligence information has been obtained that he may enter Turkey illegally,” Erdogan said.
The person, who was taken into custody after being questioned by the national intelligence and the Istanbul Security Directorate, was handed over to the judicial authorities.
