Solar panels are already well known in detached houses or isolated buildings. But what about apartment blocks in town? Can’t they be installed there too? Yes, it can, but what hinders its development is simply the public’s lack of knowledge about it. And that’s exactly how the regulations were changed a few years ago to allow it. plates in multi-family buildings, starting takeoff This system, albeit very slow.
All it takes to legally install photovoltaic panels In an apartment block, one-third of the owners agree. Note that neighbors who will not use the electricity produced by these plates will not be taxed in any way, as they will not pay any fees for the installation.
From then on, everything is usually a technical matter handled by a specialist company, who will advise and guide future users about prices, models and existing systems on the market. In any case, the savings are obvious, because bill of light 30% or even 50% cuts can be made each month, and the costs incurred in installing the plates pay off in a few years.
This is at least the experience described by the residents of a block in Majadahonda (Madrid), where the nine families who made up the building decided to install photovoltaic panels because of the skyrocketing electricity prices. They’ve been in business for a few months and that means direct savings every month. Each family paid between 2,000 and 5,000 euros. With the subsidies received, they hope to amortize the expenses within four years.
In this case, the installation was carried out by the Ecooo cooperative, which specializes in such actions and, in fact, is increasingly receiving orders for multi-family homes. This is the case of a block in Vitoria (Basque Country) where eight families in a block switched to photovoltaics last year and have since slashed the bill significantly.
With the 33 panels placed on the roofs, the neighbors save between 30% and 50% on the bill.
“In Spain, installations are growing slowly because we have only been subject to new regulations for a few years, but more and more people call us every day to request work and quotes and to install the installation. “It depends on the citizens who are pulling the caravan of this revolution, the energy communities,” says Héctor Pastor of the Ecooo cooperative.
Complete urbanization in Madrid
But the pioneer of this energy revolution in Spain, Urbanization Pablo Iglesias de Rivas Vaciamadrid (Madrid)about to begin largest self-consumption installation in the country. At least 939 families live there, and they decided to put up signs all over the neighborhood, not just in a particular block.
After the corresponding votes and one-third of the required affirmative votes, 500 houses, or more than half, were targeted for the project. This will translate to some 2,000 solar panelsas the members of La Pablo Renovable, the supporting group that sprang up in this neighborhood, explained.
And if there’s ever a good time to install solar panels in any building, it’s now. And this is so (apart from rising energy prices), because The administration provides very tasty subsidies to undertake this type of project.. The Energy Diversification and Conservation Institute (IDEA) has open hotlines that can be requested by the end of 2023.
These subsidies are channeled through autonomous communities, which can distribute up to 1,320 million euros between what they receive from the State for this purpose and what they will soon receive.
However, there are still limits that limit the development of collective self-consumption, such as the maximum distance of 500 meters from where the panels are installed to be able to share energy. In other words, any floor within this 500 meter radius can benefit from the energy of the installed panels, but not beyond that. Installers are requesting that this distance be extended to benefit more people.
