American scientists from the University of Tafts developed a “intelligent ör dental yarn with a sensor that can measure the level of cortisol – stress hormone. The device can become a suitable tool for the daily monitoring of the condition of the body. The invention is scientifically explained magazine ACS Applied Materials and Interface (ACS AMI).
During the usual brushing of the teeth, yarn saliva collects and directs them to the microchipe on the stem. The sensor created using molecular printing technology correctly determines the concentration of cortisol in 10 minutes and transfers data to the smartphone.
Samir Sonkusale, the chairman of the study by Samir Sonkusale, said, “Our device solves a few problems at the same time: use does not require invisible, does not require special procedures and gives objective data,” he said.
The test has shown that the accuracy of the invention can be compared with the laboratory analysis of Elisa. The device can even detect mild fluctuations in cortisol, which is important for early diagnosis of chronic stress, – a condition that can lead to serious diseases.
Developers plan to adapt technology to identify other biobelizes in saliva. In the future, this may lead to the creation of a number of homemade diagnostic tools integrated into daily hygiene materials.
