Scientists from the University of Lyncing in Sweden learned that both options were perceived as equally difficult and emotionally difficult, but people have chosen empathy for the group more often for the group. Published in İş Magazine Limits in Psychology.
296 people, who were recommended to do homework for empathy, participated in the experiment: to choose between cards that propose an objective explanation or emotional participation. The tasks involved in viewing neutral photographs of individuals or groups, then the participants identified the appearance or emotions of those depicted.
In watching individuals, 53% of the participants were more likely to choose empathy in the eyes of human groups in 53% of cases. At the same time, the participants called the empathy itself more intensely and unpleasant, regardless of whether a person or group was depicted.
As the author of Heidi Moshe’s work explains, empathy requires more effort and imagination when a person deprived the context – for example, watching a neutral face without expressed facial expressions. However, there may be more in the images of context groups, which helps people better understand others’ feelings.
Scientists believe that the understanding of the differences that are ready for empathy can be useful when it should cause the sympathy and support of the people in the illumination of humanitarian crises and disasters.
