Scientists from the University of Florida have found that regular physical activity minimized some of the negative consequences of drinking alcohol at a young age. Pre -research published Portal American Physics Association (ARS).
The study is based on a already known scientific truth: alcohol abuse increases the risk of cancer and cardiovascular disease and also reduces life expectancy. Even after interruption of alcohol consumption, the results may continue for years. Researchers decided to check whether physical activity can weaken this effect.
During the experiment, 37 laboratory mouse was divided into four groups depending on the lifestyle: alcohol and sports, without alcohol and sports, without alcohol and sports, alcohol and sports. In six weeks (the equivalent of early adulthood in humans) – scientists pushed rodents to imitate the “young” behavior model, after which all animals led the usual lifestyle until the end of the natural term.
The results showed that life expectancy is significantly lower in mice that consume alcohol and pioneered a still lifestyle. However, in those who combine alcohol intake with daily physical activity, this indicator could be compared with the control group that did not consume any alcohol.
“We recommend that young people using alcohol regularly pay attention to aerobic physical activity to minimize possible damage,” said Avery Tangen. – “Such exercises have a useful effect on the organs exposed to alcohol – the brain, the liver and muscles.”
Scientists stressed that the data obtained can form the basis of future research with the participation of people. Authors plan to conduct additional experiments to examine the effect of physical exercises in different periods of life.
