Scientists from Daremsk University (Great Britain) found that people with high income levels felt better than their low social status representatives. Research Results published Food quality and preference (FQR) magazine.
96 students from different social layers attended the experiment. Each one was offered a plate with 70 pieces of milk chocolate and at the same time evaluating the taste of sweetness wanted to eat as much as you want.
During a taste, scientists measured the variability of heart rhythm. This indicator reflects the activity of the vagus nerve that regulates the connection between the intestines and the brain, the feeling of hunger and saturation.
As the leader of the Mario Case’s work explained, the participants of more wealthy families focused on the inner body signals – they stopped eating when they felt toughness. For students growing in less prosperous conditions, this connection was weaker – they eat more often.
Previously, it was believed that food habits were mainly under the influence of external factors such as the existence of products. However, a new study showed that a person plays an important role in how he felt the signals of his own body. So far, the experiment has been performed only with chocolate, but in the future, scientists are planning to check if this effect is valid for other food types.
