For the first time in history, the International Group of International Scientists, led by the Ocean Institute in the United States Schmidt (SOI), was able to capture a giant squid (mesonychoteuthis hamiltoni) living in its natural habitat. The opening was reported to the authority area Scientific institution.
The giant Squid lives up to 2000 meters depths. There are hooks on the tentacles to capture production and eyes are 27 cm in diameter – a record in the animal world.
Unique personnel made at a depth of approximately 600 meters using the subastian remotely controlled apparatus initiated from the Falkor Research ship on March 9, 2025 in Antarctica waters.
As the analysis showed, it turned out that a giant squid was only 30 centimeters long. Despite the modest dimension, the copy belongs to the largest invertebrate on the planet – adults reach seven meters long and weigh 500 kg.
The giant Squid lives in deep Antarctica waters and rarely encounters scientists. Before that, they were only inanimate – in the stomachs of the sperm whale or lack.
The video confirms that these creatures really live in the abissal depths and that they did not only appear before they leave life.
