German researchers from Tubingen University found that black crows have an unexpected cognitive ability – they can recognize geometric regulations. This makes them the first famous animals after a person who shows such a skill. The study was published scientifically magazine Science Developments (SCIADV).
In a series of experiments, the raven were shown figure groups on the screen, it was necessary to choose a different element between them – for example, a star between rectangles. Birds took off for the right choice.
It was revealed that crows without preliminary education cope with basic tasks (clearly a different figure selection). They maintained their ability to recognize even with minimal differences (for example, a slightly sloping frame between the ordinary). In addition, birds showed straight angles, parallel lines and understanding of symmetry.
